We are often too busy to take good photos and videos of our activities and adventures. We showcase as many as we have at our annual fireworks display in Standlake. If you would like to share any photos that you have please get in touch as we woud love to hear from you.
For generations, the camp blanket has been a cherished part of the Scouting experience. More than just a way to stay cosy on chilly evenings, it becomes a personal scrapbook of adventures. As your child progresses through Cubs, Scouts, and even Explorers, they can proudly stitch or sew badges onto their blanket, each one representing camps attended, activities enjoyed, and achievements earned. This creates a tangible history of their Scouting journey, a comforting reminder of friendships made and skills learned.
We highly encourage you to start this wonderful tradition with your Cub Scout now. It's a fantastic way for them to feel connected to the wider Scouting family and to build a keepsake they will treasure for years to come. Imagine them years from now, wrapped in their blanket, reminiscing about their early adventures in Scouts!
We have negotaited a great rate for brand new navy style woolen camp blankets, perfect to start your own blanket.
These can be bought from the group at the very good price of £22.50 ask your leader for more details or contact the group Treasurer.
They are 1.5m by 2m and will fit a single bed.
Cubs introduce the Camp Blanket as part of their programme schedule and learn about the history and the traditions while leaders show their own blankets and the stories behind the badges and camps.
This style of blankets is particularly popular with scouts as it gives an easy way to wear your blanket when you are around the camp fire.
Simply fold your blanket in half along the long edge and cut a head hole in the seam. Be sure to use a blanket stitch along the edges of the new hole stop the hole from fraying or getting too large
This style of blanket is more formal and is prefereable if you intend to mainly use your blanket to surround your sleeping bag to keep you warm at night.
It doesn't matter which style you choose as long as you make it your own blanket.
Blankets are very personal to the scout and there is no right or wrong way of creating your own blanket. Some of the things that we have seen on Camp Blankets that we think are good ideas include:
Any Camp Badges you get from campsites you have been to with Scouts
Any Occasional Badges that have come off your uniform as these mark events in time during your time in scouting
Any Staged badges that you have removed from your uniform when you have gained a higher stage
Any Seconder or other badges that come off your beaver, cubs, scout or explorer uniforms
Some scouts choose to sew neckers from previous groups or neckers they have swapped onto the back
You can add any badges from other organisations that celebrate achievements such as swimming
There is no right or wrong, just make it your own blanket so that your scouting stories and memories continue.
Blanket showing the pennants from scouting sites in the UK and abroad
District and old uniform badges
Remember, your blanket is your own and whatever style or method you use it is the stories and shared experiences that are the important part.
