We are Sea Scouts and as part of our programme we do our best to help young people gain skills for life. Sometimes we are able to back these up with qualifications that our young people can take with them to other organisations.
We are fortunate to be able to rely upon a team of leaders and volunteer instructors who are able to teach our Scouts the skills they need to advance in externally verified qualifications. Some of our instructors are Royal Yachting Association instructors and along with the local centres are able to validate the learning and assess the skills in order to be able to issue certificates.
The RYA operate a highly successful youth sailing scheme and their qualifications are recognised by the Scouting Association so that Stages 1 to 4 are equivalent to the Sailing Staged Badge stages 1 to 4.
We encourage our Sea Scouts that are working towards their qualifications to join the RYA
