Ben & Sara Get Married
Aug 07, 2016 8:16:57 PM
On a gorgeous sunny day, Ben and Sara got married at St Mary's Church North Leigh.
Scouts and Explorers were there to provide the traditional guard of honour.
The reception was held at Cogges Manor, which was a fabulous venue and family and friends had a wonderful time, celebrating with the newly weds, amongst those were many past scouts, and present leaders.
1st Standlake & Cokethorpe Sea Scouts and West Oxon Sea Explorers Scout Unit would like to wish the happy couple all the very best for the future.
Congratulations to Our Queen's Scouts!

Gang Show 2017 Workshops
Mar 01, 2016 10:10:51 AM
If you would like to do next year’s show you need to come to one of the three workshops. You do not have to come to all of them, just one. The dates are as follows:
Monday 7th March 2016 (next Monday), 19.00 - 20.30 at 28th Oxford Scout HQ, Fairlie Road, Littlemore, Oxford OX4 3SW.
Saturday 30th April 2016, 14.00 - 17.00 at Youlbury SAC, Boars Hill, Oxford OX1 5HD. This workshop will be at the Gang Show Camp so those of you on the camp will get to do it but you can come and do the Workshop whether you are on the camp or not.
Sunday 16th October 2016, 10.00 - 12.00 at Edward Feild Primary School, Kidlington - this is to be confirmed.
If you could let me know which workshop you will be coming to that would help the logistics or if you have decided not to do next years show if you could just let me know that would be useful.
Please come in uniform to the workshop. I have attached a poster containing the information above - if you could print it out and ask your Leader to put it up in your meeting place and encourage others to join us. A challenge for you - bring a friend to the Workshop who hasn’t done the show before. You need to be 8 years old and under 25 years old on Sunday 12th February 2017 and an active member of The Scout Association or GirlGuiding UK to be in the Gang.
Rehearsals will be similar to this years and we hope to be rehearsing at Edward Feild School again but that has still to be confirmed.
Show week is Monday 13th February 2017 - Saturday 18th February 2017 with the dress rehearsal on Saturday 11th February 2017. The first rehearsal will be Sunday 16th October 2016.
Many thanks

Leader 1st Aid Training
Feb 11, 2015 5:24:20 PM
Scout leaders are required as part of their training to undertake a first aid course, every 3 years. This usually takes place at Youlbury and is scout run in a first responder style. For 1st Standlake & Cokethorpe Sea Scouts, this can be an issue, as this is a scouting only recognised qualification, if any leaders become RYA or BCU instructors, they require a HSE recognised course. Additionally as we spend 4 months over the summer sailing and kayaking each week, we felt it would also be beneficial to have part of the course directed at water related first aid. ...

Music Competition
May 17, 2013 8:56:2 AM
Dear Oxfordshire Scouts
We are writing to let you know about an exciting initiative that you might be interested in incorporating into your Scouting activities. From Beavers through to Explorers, Scouts can get involved and be in with a chance of winning an invitation to Westminster Abbey, at the same time as working towards a badge.
Your chance to join a host of VIPS, celebrities and schools at a very special harvest celebration in Westminster Abbey in October 2013!
As part of British Food Fortnight’s campaign this year, we are calling on Britain’s young to create a new anthem for a modern day harvest celebration, and in doing so, have fun and have a chance to make history! We want young people everywhere to get rapping, writing and singing and create a harvest anthem for today: a new ‘We plough the fields and scatter’, a new harvest number one to inspire a new generation. The piece will become the anthem for this year’s British Food Fortnight the winning group will receive an invitation to our special celebration in Westminster Abbey.
How to take part.
· Get together with your club to create the Harvest song, rap or poem, make a short film of yourself and your friends performing it (it may be presented visually as a dance, flash mob, animation, choir etc) and send it to us before the 16th September 2013.
· Entries must be fun, food/harvest related and in good taste but don't have to be professionally made or follow a particular formula. We want people to have FUN celebrating British food and the Harvest during 2013 and to inspire a new generation!
· The competition will be Judged by Professor Paul Mealor and Millie Wastie. Professor Mealor wrote The Military Wives Choir and Gareth Malone's, ‘Wherever You Are’ and his Motet was performed at the Wedding Ceremony of His Royal Highness Prince William and Catherine Middleton. Millie Wastie is the Chairman of the National Federation of Young Farmers Clubs.
Further details, ideas from Professor Mealor on writing a composition, inspiration, tips on making a video and rules can be found here: http://www.lovebritishfood.co.uk/british-food-fortnight/digital-harvest-celebration-2013/. I have also attached a power point presentation that explains it in simple terms and you are welcome to adapt for your own use.
I hope this might inspire your Scout groups to get involved and if you need anything further please do not hesitate to contact us – we can’t wait to see your entries!
The competition is open to any group of young people so please feel free to circulate to anyone you think might be interested.
With warm wishes,
Catherine
